Presented during Hyvolution Paris 2026 in collaboration with EY, the European Hydrogen and Derivatives Index 2026 provides an in-depth review of the European low-carbon hydrogen market at a decisive moment in its development.
As highlighted on the Main Stage on 27 January 2026, the sector is moving from momentum to maturity. Fewer announcements, but more operational projects. Less speculation, more execution. This Index was designed to reflect the current state of the hydrogen sector, taking into account both market dynamics and the evolving expectations of the industry.

 

 

What has changed in the past year?
The Index offers a fact-based analysis of how the European hydrogen market evolved between August 2024 and August 2025:

 

  • +17% increase in installed capacities
  • An average project size of 27 MW for renewable hydrogen projects reaching FID
  • A projected 14 GW electrolyser manufacturing overcapacity by 2030

 

The data shows a market in consolidation. As illustrated in the 2026 edition, Europe saw a two-fold increase in projects becoming operational in 2025 compared to 2024 — a strong signal that scale-up is underway.
At the same time, the report highlights structural challenges: European projects are growing in size, yet remain three times smaller than the global average, and manufacturing capacity is outpacing demand.
